What it is

Small Time Bets is a podcast I started during the COVID lockdowns with one of my best mates. At the beginning, it was a weekly excuse to talk openly and honestly about what had happened that week: technology news, bigger industry shifts, the state of the world, and whatever felt like it might matter later.

It was always deliberately small-scale and conversational. The point was not to sound like experts with perfect takes; it was to create a public record of what seemed plausible at the time, with enough humour and honesty to come back later and see what aged well.

What it became

Keeping it weekly eventually became unsustainable, but the best part of the format survived. Small Time Bets is now an annual predictions show: we look back at the year that just happened, review what we got right and wrong, and make a fresh set of predictions for the year ahead.

That annual rhythm gives the show a useful constraint. We have to say what we think before hindsight makes everything obvious, then return to the evidence later.
